The only place that houses an aquarium, a planetarium, and a natural history museum under one roof, this project features more than $2 million in AV equipment; the AV requirements were engineering intensive and technically complicated. An integrated IP-based infrastructure supports the entire building’s IT needs and saves significant time and money (and contributes to a greener facility). Exhibit applications were consolidated on two servers in two mini-data centers. Kiosks and other applications could be easily monitored and managed, resulting in more uptime for the patron and saving $875,000 per year in IT administration costs. The design requirements – a LEED Platinum rating, easy-to-use IT systems, and amazing visual aesthetics – were all met.
